J.D. Buckley: You’re all more than welcome here. It’s… it’s great to have you on the evening of the first live showing of The People’s Rainforest, which is going out at 8 o’clock on Sky1 HD this evening.
Lucy Carver: Sky’s got a big focus on minimising our environmental impact.

Lucy Carver: And that’s why we have a partnership with WWF, who are here today. Thank you for coming along. Of course Sky Rainforest Rescue – and the idea of that is to help save a billion trees in the Amazon rainforest.

Glyn Davies: It’s two brands coming together to raise the profile of a big issue, which is the state of the forests, actually worldwide, but particularly in the Amazon.
Glyn Davies: How do we fundraise? How do we fundraise as part of this partnership to bring about change on the ground?
Lucy Carver: And what we do is, we ask customers to give money which we then match. So far, we’ve raised 2.4 million euros, and we’re hoping to double that over the next three years. And it goes towards helping to save an area of three million hectares in Acre, which is in Western Brazil. And we wanna make those trees worth more alive than dead by… by working with farmers to help introduce new sustainable methods of farming, which not only protect the rainforest, but also make their livelihoods much more profitable. And… and they enable them to educate their children to… to not have to slash and burn rainforests and move on.
It’s been a really interesting project, and one of the things that we’re really excited about is using Sky’s programming to educate people about the rainforest in a way that’s not earnest and dull but is upbeat and exciting. And… and that’s why we have programmes like The People’s Rainforest on Sky1, which does exactly that.
