Developing young riders
Sky supports Go Ride, British Cycling’s successful schools programme that introduces children to all disciplines of cycling and encourages them to compete through Go Ride Racing. The aim is to provide 50,000 opportunities for children to get involved by 2013.
With our support, Go Ride has so far introduced over 16,000 young people from 192 schools to all forms of cycling, from BMX and mountain biking to traditional road racing. To date, over 800 Go Ride Racing events have been delivered and over 13,000 children have taken part.
Many young riders find it daunting to enter their first race and compete against more experienced riders who are often equipped with the latest bikes and specialist equipment. Go-Ride Racing offers riders under the age of 16 the opportunity to compete in a real race environment against cyclists of the same age and ability. Once novice racers have gained confidence, they are encouraged to make the step up to open regional competition.
