Welcome to The Bigger Picture

jeremySky is a valued part of everyday life in the homes of more than one in three families in the UK and Ireland.

We entertain, excite and inspire our customers with a great choice of high quality content. We make technology simple, put viewers in control of how they watch TV and bring them their favourite programmes in high definition. We connect customers to great-value broadband and telephony, and we back it all up with a commitment to exceptional customer service.

I believe that a successful and sustainable business is a responsible business; one that does the right thing;, sees the bigger picture; and works hard to tackle the issues its people and customers care about. This is fundamental to our culture and values and the way we do business across the company. We have focused on three areas where we believe we can make a real difference: bringing more of the arts to more people; encouraging participation in sport; and helping to create a healthy environment.

For example, we’re helping our customers to reduce their energy consumption with the world’s first auto standby for set top boxes, which is set to save customers an estimated £20 million a year on their energy bills and 90,000 tonnes of CO2 per year – more than Sky’s entire carbon footprint.

Our investment in sport helps to fund activities at the grass roots and encourage participation at all levels, including helping to train 13,000 cricket coaches through our partnership with the ECB. We have also expanded Sky Sports Living for Sport to all UK secondary schools. To date, this programme has already helped over 17,000 young people reach their potential. Through our partnership with British Cycling, we will help one of Britain’s most successful Olympic and World teams to achieve even more, develop the next generation of talent, and inspire millions of people to get on their bikes.

Sky Arts operates the UK’s only channels dedicated to all areas of the arts, squeezing 36 hours of quality arts programming into every day, alongside a new and improved Sky Arts website. Off screen, we remain one of the UK’s largest corporate supporters of the arts, through our partnerships with leading arts organisations and events across the UK from the English National Ballet to the Hay Festival. This summer will see our first project with public arts company Artichoke as we help to bring Antony Gormley’s ‘One and Other’ artwork to the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square and into the nation’s living rooms through our channels.

There is always more to do, and we are focused on creating many more opportunities for our customers to join in with The Bigger Picture. I hope you will.
